2023 Virtus Global Games - Update

The 6th Virtus Global Games will be held in Vichy, France from 4th to 10th June 2023.  The Global Games is the worlds largest elite sports event for athletes with intellectual impairment.  Athletes will compete in three classes II1, II2 and II3.  Virtus has recently confirmed that all three classes are full medal events having successfully completed the pilot phase of class II3.

Thousands of athletes from across Europe, Asia, Africa, America and the Oceania regions will take part in over 10 sports.

The 2023 event is hosted by the French Virtus member,  – the Fédération Française du Sport Adapté (FFSA).

SportExcel UK is preparing a GB Team entry.  We are working with various National Governing Bodies of Sport and other organisations.  It is hoped we will see British athletes compete in a variety of sports including athletics; swimming; equestrian; judo; tennis; and cycling.  This is an indication only.

The Global Games is the highest level of elite competition for athletes with intellectual impairment through Virtus.  GB selection policies and standards are being agreed and will be published on our website in January 2023.  In some sports timelines may vary.  Only individuals who meet the standards and criteria can be considered for the Global Games.

Costs for each athlete to compete are estimated to be in the region of £1500 – £2000.  This may vary from sport to sport.  Athletes targeting the event, or who may wish to be considered for an invitation should plan for this.

Calls for coaches and other support staff who may be interested in supporting the team at the Global Games will also be made shortly. If you wish to indicate an early interest, please contact SportExcel UK directly.
