British Poomsae players claim 2019 European Success
Celebrations for the Great Britain Team as they return with gold and silver medals from the 8th Para Taekwondo European Championships in Bari, Italy.
As part of the overall GB Team (Kyrougi and Poomsae), six athletes from the Para Poomsae Squad set about their medal campaign.
Amongst those six was defending European Champion (2017) and double World Champion (2017 & 2019) Bradley Brockies (P20).
Entering the competition as favourite in the seeded draw, Brockies didn’t disappoint. A solid defeat of both Russian opponents retained his title with an impressive point gap to be crowned the 2019 gold medallist and Junior European Champion, in this his last year in the Junior category.
Samantha Carrington (P33 and P34 class) took gold and silver in her respective classes.

The GB Poomsae Team was supported by GB Para Poomsae coaches, Gemma Biescas, Russell Watkinson and Terry Cooper.
Gemma Biescas said, “Overall the coaches are very pleased with all the preparation leading up to the event and our main goal was to get the best performance out of the boys.”
Tracey McCillen, Chief Executive UK Sports Association said “I am delighted for Bradley retaining his title. It’s great to see new players coming onto the International scene too – I look forward to watching their elite sports careers progress. Congratulations to the whole Team on their performances, but in particular class P20 player, gold medallist Bradley in reaching the podium.”
The 8th Para Taekwondo European Championships in Bari, Italy hosted a record 214 players competing in both Poomsae and Kyrougi. Players from across the impairment classes competed in fierce competition from 31st October 2019.
The UK Sports Association and British Taekwondo work collaboratively to support the development of an elite pathway for Taekwondo players with intellectual impairment. Intellectual impairment is classified as P20 in Taekwondo competitions. Classification of British players is managed by the UK Sports Association.
