Cricketer, Jervis Crowned Disability Sportsman of the Year

Jervis receiving the Sports Award

Congratulations to international cricketer, Alex Jarvis who was crowned ‘Disability Sportsman of the Year’ at the Disability Sport Yorkshire 25th Anniversary Awards Dinner.

Held on Friday 16th March 2018, at Leeds United FC, over 300 guests saw the cricketer receive the coveted award. The Award, sponsored by The Ramiro Group, was a particularly important moment for Jervis, having been nominated 6 years ago, but not quite grasping the illusive Disability Sportsman Award.

One of six nominees on the evening, Alex Jervis said “I was first nominated for a Disability Sport Yorkshire Award 6 years ago but I didn’t win. I trained hard and 6 years later I win an award. So for everyone that got nominated and didn’t win don’t give up, carry on and work harder.”

Jervis was part of the strong 2017 England side who completed an eight-wicket win over South Africa to claim the T20 trophy in last years Inas Tri Nations Cricket Series. The Tri Series event was hosted by the England and Wales Cricket Board, with event sponsors NatWest, and was recognised and supported by the UK Sports Association, the GB member of Inas.

Tracey McCillen, Chief Executive, UK Sports Association said “I am delighted to see Alex Jervis honoured in this way – its well deserved. The England Learning Disability Cricket Squad has worked hard, the ECB have supported them well, as have all the coaches and volunteers, so to see one of their own recognised in this way is hugely rewarding.”

Ian Martin, Head of Disability Cricket, ECB said “I’m delighted for Alex. He has become an integral part of our Team and his performances in the Tri Series last summer were exceptional. He’s worked hard over the last few years and I’m really pleased that he is being recognised for his performances.”

2017 also saw Jervis and his England team mates receive their ECB caps, presented by former England keeper Paul Nixon.
