Call for GB Entries to 2020 Virtus Para Equestrian Championships

Information for British Riders

Virtus (Inas) has confirmed that the 2020 Virtus Para Equestrian video competition will go ahead as planned in 2020.

The video competition, now in its 4th year is a well-established Championship within the Virtus programme.

The UK Sports Association is delighted to support the Virtus 2020 Para Equestrian Event for the fourth consecutive year and invites expressions of interest from British riders for both the Senior and Youth events.

Riders can compete in the international event from the convenience of their local equestrian facility. Given the current COVID-19 social distancing and lockdown circumstances, Virtus has confirmed that entries can be submitted up to 4th October 2020.

To meet the Virtus deadline, GB entries must reach the UK Sports Association by 11.59pm on 25th September 2020.

Eligibility to Compete

All British riders, without exception will need to hold either a full Virtus international classification, or Virtus National classification (formerly called provisional) to be eligible to compete for Great Britain.  Both levels can only be obtained through the UK Sports Association, the GB member of Virtus.

A classification application is not an administrative process, but is a rigorous method of evaluating and assessing whether an athlete is eligible to compete.  Given the time required to progress through this system, interested athletes or their advocate, should contact the UK Sports Association urgently to seek advice and guidance on starting an application.  Application is no guarantee a classification will be granted.

All enquiries from British riders should be sent to the UK Sports Association.  All entries to the event will be made through the UK Sports Association.  Please do not contact Virtus directly.

What level of competitor will UKSA consider?

Competitors should be in regular training and competitions.  Competitors should be competent, experienced and accomplished riders.  Entries should be at a truly competitive level and ideally have the potential of progressing to the top 6 competitors worldwide. Instructors/coaches and riders should review previous results to understand the level of competition and be prepared to provide UKSA with information on how the interested riders abilities compare.  UKSA reserve the right to change or enhance this requirement as necessary to maximise the chances of British success.

Virtus Update 18.8.20: Virtus has made a minor amendment to the halt at the end of the test (G to X for senior riders and X to G for the youth competition).  All riders/instructors should read the updated details here

IMPORTANT COVID-19 GUIDANCE: At all times, the UK Sports Association advises riders and their support networks who may be interested in this event, to follow current Government rules, restrictions and medical advice around the Coronavirus.  These rules should be followed at all times and for however long the Government and medical advisers think necessary. The safety of riders, supporters and staff at local centres is of paramount importance.

Virtus and the UK Sports Association are closely monitoring the impact COVID-19 and restrictions are having on events around the world.  Both organisations reserve the right to cancel or postpone the Championships and any entries should the need to do so arise based on the best medical and governmental advice available at any given time.
