MSMV! Ambassador Bethany Firth is IPC’s ‘One to watch’

My Sport, My Voice! Ambassador Bethany Firth has been recognised this past week by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) as one of the athletes to keep your eye on in the swimming category for Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Despite the Games being 238 days away and counting, the UK Sports Association is very excited for Bethany Firth to receive this early on international praise.

Firth has been an Ambassador for our current campaign, “My Sport, My Voice!” since March 2015. She plays a vital role in helping us achieve our goal of inspiring and creating awareness for athletes with learning disability.

With all this being said, IPC’s flattering review of Bethany Firth should come as no surprise to anyone as Firth is a dynamic swimmer. Her personal best finish was a gold medal in the 100 metre backstroke in the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

In 2015, she set new world records in the 200m individual medley, 100m backstroke, and 100m breaststroke. Despite having an amazing year, Firth’s 2015 competition was cut short due to a right wrist injury.

Along with her accomplishments in competition, Firth with the help of UK Sports Association makes an effort to inspire and raise awareness for athletes with learning disability all over the UK.

She has gone on to say, “I feel like sport has opened so many doors for me. I’m delighted to be a My Sport, My Voice! Ambassador so that I can share my story and help inspire people to achieve their dreams. I also want to help people get a better understanding of people with learning disability.”

Now in 2016, Bethany Firth is currently healthier than ever and ready to get back to her winning ways this year at the Rio Games. You can catch our Ambassador in the 2016 IPC Swimming European Open Championships in Funchal, Portugal on 30th April to 7th May.
