Team GB wins four medals at INAS Global Games

Fabrice Higgins, Shain Lewis, Peter Millar, and Thomas Mellor

Great Britain tennis players won four medals at the INAS 2015 Global Games in Ecuador with My Sport, My Voice! Ambassador Peter Millar claiming a bronze in the men’s doubles competition with Dominic Iannotti.

The British squad won one gold medal, two silver medals and a bronze medal at the Games organised by INAS – The International Sports Federation for Persons with Intellectual Disability.

Fabrice Higgins and Dominic Iannotti won gold medallists in the men’s team event beating Australia and Czech Republic. Higgins also won silver in the men’s event, narrowly losing out to Australia’s Archie Graham in the final 7-6, 4-6, 10-8.

There was another silver medal in the men’s doubles after Higgins and Thomas Mellor were edged out in the final by the Australian duo of Graham and Mitchell James. Iannotti and Millar made it two men’s doubles medals for Great Britain after a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Czech Republic’s Ondrej Sedlisky and Jakub Jerhot in the bronze medal play-off.

Millar said: “Winning a medal is what I aim to do every tournament and the bronze medal I’ve won this time was an amazing experience not only for me but my teammate Dom, who helped me throughout the tournament.”

He added: “The weather was tricky to overcome due to the hot and humid temperature, which we’re not used to back in the UK, but we didn’t let that stop us trying to achieve our goal. I’m just overwhelmed with the support we received and am happy to be bringing another medal home for GB Tennis.”

Now back in the UK, Millar is looking forward to sharing his experiences at a number of events including co-delivering a workshop in Liverpool this January as part of his role as an Athlete Ambassador for the UK Sports Association’s project, My Sport, My Voice!
