Tickets on sale for Rio 2016 Paralympic Games

Fans travelling from the UK to Brazil can now purchase tickets from Travel Places for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games thanks to the British Paralympic Association (BPA).

Travel Places has been the Authorised Ticket Reseller (ATR) appointed by the BPA for Beijing 2008, Sochi 2014, and now Rio 2016. They are well versed in the Paralympic environment and in accessibility requirements. Travel Places also offers information on flights, accommodation, competition venues, travel in Brazil, and comprehensive travel packages.

Chef de Mission for Rio 2016, Penny Briscoe is thrilled about the start of ticket sales: “It’s incredibly exciting that supporters of the team can now start making their travel plans to Rio for the Paralympic Games next year. It promises to be an exciting festival of sport and I’m sure it will prove to be an unforgettable event for athletes and fans alike.”

The support and commitment of GB fans has been outstanding, especially after the huge success of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Briscoe goes on to say: “We are proud of the support that we enjoy from our fans – I’m sure that the other nations will envy the backing that we receive both from the crowds in Brazil and from those watching back at home, and it will provide added motivation for our athletes on the field of play.”

Athletes with learning disability can compete in three sports at the Paralympic Games – swimming, table tennis, and athletics. Tracey McCillen, Chief Executive, UKSA said: “There are a number of potential British athletes targeting Rio 2016 and I hope that we will see some of them reach the standards required in all three of the sports.

“I hope that the work to include additional events in Rio continues for the next cycle so that we see more opportunities in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games for athletes with learning disability.”
