The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced that the international tickets for the 2020 Paralympic Games are on sale from Thursday 5th September. The IPC’s ticket Partner is CoSport.

The Tokyo Games are expected to be the biggest in the history of the Paralympics with an estimated 4,400 para-athletes from more than 160 countries taking part in 22 sports.

For the first time in 2020, the Paralympic Games will feature badminton and taekwondo on the events programme.

There are a total of 540 medal events at the Games.

The Opening Ceremony will begin on 25th August 2020 at the newly built Olympic Stadium.

Schaefer went on to say “With less than one year to go, Tokyo 2020 is on course to deliver the greatest Paralympic Games yet and we are delighted to invite international sport fans to enjoy this once-in-lifetime experience with CoSport.”

Since 1960 when the Games first took place in Rome, Italy, the Paralympics have grown into the world’s number one sporting event for driving social inclusion. An estimated 2.1 million spectators attended the Rio 2016 Paralympics, an event that inspired positive social change.

Government statistics show that since 2009 when Rio won the right to stage the Games, there has been a 49% increase in hiring persons with disabilities in Brazil.

After the 2012 Paralympics in London, according to the IPC, one in three British people changed their attitudes towards disability and an extra million persons with disabilities have secured employment.

The Tokyo Paralympic Games includes events for athletes with intellectual impairment (male/female) in the three sports of athletics (class T/F20), swimming (class S/SB14) and table tennis (class 11). These are:
